Magazines subscriptions make excellent holiday presents for kids. They truly are “the gift that keeps on giving”! I’ve found a great resource for purchasing most magazine titles at a substantial savings. My kids just love getting their own mail and I appreciate that they read and learn independently. My 7 year-old “girly girl” has really developed her reading skills while thoroughly enjoying her “American Girl” magazines and our 10 year-old science junkie just eats up his “Kids Discover” mags.

The trade-off is that you have to allow the publisher some extra time to start delivery - up to about 12 weeks. The publishers offer these big discounts so they can “fill the gaps” in their circulation committments to their advertisers but if you can be flexible, the pay-off in savings is well worth it.

When giving a gift subscription, I sometimes buy a single issue of the magazine & give it to the recipient gift wrapped with a note explaining the subsciption details. If the gift is going to an out of town recipient, I include a small printed image of the magazine cover in a card. This idea also works well for a ”stocking stuffer”.
