A Trip Worth Taking
By Linda | December 8, 2008
Last night we watched the premier of the stunning National Geographic Channel film, “Journey to the Edge of the Universe”.
The program features arresting CGI representations of some of the most awe-inspiring objects in our universe. The journey begins by visiting each of our closest neighbors right here in our solar system and then forges outward into the Milky Way Galaxy and beyond.
As we move further and further from our own world, we pass a few of the landers and probes we have launched in our attempts to explore and understand our Universe. With so much ground to cover (both literally and figuratively), the two-hour program touches only briefly on each of the spectacular denizens inhabiting our cosmos. Black Holes, Pulsars, and my personal favorites, Quasars are depicted vibrantly with excellent narration by Alec Baldwin. What a great voice!
Many questions were raised by my 10-year-old Science Junkie during and after viewing this program. This is an excellent thing in my view. I will probably take a few of my next posts up in addressing some of these questions.
In the meantime, If you missed the initial airing of this program and would like to view it, the next prime time presentation will be on 12/11/08. Check your local listings for more information. You can even set a reminder right on the NatGeo website so you don’t miss it.

Hi Linda - Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts on Journey to the Edge of the Universe with your readers on Science Junkie! Glad you and your son both enjoyed the program. I work with NGC to get the word out about our programs to folks online and would be happy to send you info about similar, science-oriented programs if you wish. Thanks again!
